“Such is the power of the sacrament of baptism: it is a sacrament of new life which begins here and now with the forgiveness of all past sins, and will be brought to completion in the resurrection of the dead.”
St. Augustine
The most important day of my life - the day of my baptism! August 31st, 1980 at St. Joseph's Church in Port Elgin, ON by Fr. Hudson (RIP). Fr. Justin Pulikunnel. The day I became a Christian.
Fr. Justin’s Priestly Ordination: On 4 October 2014,
the Lord Jesus laid hold of my life and forever changed it, allowing me to participate in his priesthood in a ministerial way, configuring me in persona Christi capatis (in the person of Christ the head). For seven years now, I have attempted (with mixed success!) to understand and live according to the consequences of that great and terrible Day of the Lord, and each year on this day, I ask the Lord for the grace to be a more faithful disciple and priest. I thank you for welcoming me with such graciousness and warmth – I really could not have asked for a better first assignment as Pastor. I thank God every day for all of you. I pray that each and every member of SHJ & SHM & St. Bernadette will have a Being a disciple of Jesus Christ should be at the heart of each of our lives. Please pray for me as I pray for you.

2022 FIRST COMMUNION |
Carter English shows off one of his gifts, a beautiful cross that says "First Holy Communion: I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. ~ John 6:35" The SHM CWL put on a fabulous reception to celebrate the First Communicants, who each received very thoughtful gifts from the League. O'Neill Parish Hall was beautifully decorated. It was also a delicious Toonie breakfast! Thank you ladies! Looking forward to Sundae Sunday on July 17th! Bridget McGregor getting scrunched between myself and her mum, Anne-Marie after Corpus Christi Mass. |
Dominic Deck admiring a cupcake with his name on it. Check out the beautiful cupcakes and white chocolate "praying hands" mould that Barb Rivers made for the First Communion kids. Barb is so talented! Henry Phillips and yours truly after Mass on Corpus Domini. I stupidly forgot to gather the First Communion class for a corporate class pic. |
PRAYER FOR THE CHILDREN WHO HAVE NOT YET MADE THEIR FIRST COMMUNION.
O Virgin Mary, sweet Mother and protectress of the young, deign to watch in a special manner over those of our children who are still too young to make their first holy communion, and yet are old enough to be liable to offend God by sin. Remove from them all evil occasions and all dangerous companions. Do not allow their innocence to suffer shipwreck through evil conversations, and, if they have the misfortune of falling into sin, O deign to obtain for them the grace to make a good confession, and ever after to avoid sin and its occasions. Amen.

Anointing of the Sick
Is one of your loved ones struggling with illness or homebound? Is your loved one in hospital and would like to have a visit by Fr. Justin? Does your homebound or hospitalized loved one wish to receive Holy Communion? Would you like prayers for your loved one? Would you like to add their name to the prayers of the faithful during Mass? Do you wish to have the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick? Remember, the Sacrament of Anointing is for the sick, not just a sacrament for those who are actively dying. Those who are confronted with serious illness, chronic illness, or surgery are invited to request the Sacrament of Anointing by calling Fr. Justin for an appointment. We also now have a wonderful Pastoral Care team made up of generous parishioners who can bring Holy Communion to the sick and those confined to their own homes. Again, if you are someone or know of someone who would like to receive Sacraments at their home, please contact the office @ 613.472.2220 more information.
