PS - Archbishop Mulhall has asked that our Lenten alms be directed to various needs in our own Archdiocese and to Catholic charities working throughout the world to alleviate poverty, hunger and homelessness Last year, $15,000 was collected across the Archdiocese. The Archdiocese dispersed the proceeds of the Lenten Collection to Gleaners’ Food Bank which feeds thousands of Quinte residents; St. Vincent de Paul Society which distributes clothing and other necessities to the less fortunate; Grace Inn which provides shelter for the homeless; Birthright which assists pregnant women in distress to carry their babies to term and support them with necessities for the baby and Project Rachel, which provides support for those who are experiencing the trauma abortion. In Lent, we are all asked to give sacrificially to the care of the needy, since our Lord Himself said that “Whatever you do to the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you do to me.” So please be generous in giving to the Annual Archdiocesan Lenten Collection slated for this weekend of March 16-17. |
Reminder: We will walk the Stations Sat @ 4:30pm (SHJ) & Sun @ 8:30am (SHM) and Sun @ 10:30am (SHJ). So come 30 mins early to Mass and include this beautiful devotion as part of your Lenten preparation of your heart to celebrate, in a deeper way this year, the great solemnity of our God’s love for us in his suffering, death, and resurrection at Easter. |

For more information, contact Cathy Massey @ 705.760.0138 or Debbie Wood @ 613.473.5413 On the Monday of Holy Week, Mar 25 @ 2pm at SHM Church, ladies of the parish will be gathering to "review" and discuss each of the stations of the cross, using the moving meditations from Everyone's Way of the Cross. SHJ Restoration Fund Well, you did it! The Phase II goal has been reached. Thank you to all who have contributed to achieve this significant milestone. So many sacrifices were made by families to step-up and meet the need, which was considerable and not easy given the inflation we're still contending with. The steadfast support of SHM parishioners, all the fundraisers, garage sales, parish meals, donations made by CWL & KofC as well as your consistent financial and prayerful support combined with God's grace will allow us to start Phase II on time. I'll say more on the weekend, including providing an updated financial report, but in the meantime, congratulations! |

I hope you have downloaded the Hallow app to take advantage of our parish partnering with Hallow this Lent! Parishioners are invited to access all premium app content beginning now through Easter Sunday. Over a million people are participating in the 40 days prayer challenge of Hallow app during this Lenten season. I strongly recommend it. The best usage is to setup a schedule of prayer and readings for the day. It really is life changing. The app does provide nice structure and the narrators have very reassuring voices. I love using Hallow in the car instead of listening to the radio. As mentioned a few weeks ago, this initiative is subsidized by the parish for your benefit, costing only $1 for 40 days - gives you full access to the #1 prayer app in the world.

Parishioners are encouraged to help decorate for the Holy Week and Easter Liturgies. If you wish to honour a loved one, living or deceased, please use your Easter Flower Offering envelope OR our while Flower Sponsor envelopes (located in the narthex) for your donation. For the latter, a one time donation of $40 will cover your week, and you'll also get a Mass intention included in that. So a great deal if you think about it! Whichever you choose, please print your envelope number, your name and the names of those you wish to honour. Memorial requests must be received no later than Palm Sunday, Mar 24 for the names to appear in the Easter Flower list. Thank you for your support. Mass Intentions We celebrate many milestones in Christian life, from baptisms to first communions, weddings to anniversaries, and births to final passing. It is in these moments we seek the emotional support of family and friends, and the strength that only God can provide. Mass intentions provide a spiritual gift to those you love. It tells the recipient that they are not alone in these moments. Mass intentions are a Catholic gift of prayer, asking God to bless them with his Spirit of love and peace. For that reason, they are perfect as baptism gifts, first communion gifts, and confirmation gifts. They are also comforting for those who are mourning the death of a loved one, or for a friend who may be struggling in life. If you'd like to schedule a Mass intention, fill out one of the envelopes at the entrance of the church or contact our secretary Pauline Davis at the parish office @ 613.472.2220 or sacredheart.mm@archkingston.ca If you need a convenient way to make regular offerings or if you plan to make an additional gift before the end of the year, we encourage you to check out our electronic giving options. shjpayments@gmail.com (SHJ) shmpayments@gmail.com (SHM) SHJ & SHM are sustained by the generosity of our parishioners. Hurt by abortion? Or do you know some who has been? Project Rachel at St. Mary of Egypt Refuge is a ministry to women who have lost a child to abortion, and who often suffer the pain of this loss alone, filled with shame and regret. These women are welcomed on a Project Rachel weekend by the Christian community -- with hospitality, with the beauty of nature at St. Mary of Egypt Refuge in Madoc, with good food, and without judgment. There are opportunities for healing by way of Scripture, prayer, and the loving presence of our Lord in the sacraments of the Eucharist and Reconciliation. There are many ways for volunteers to participate in these weekends -- assisting the team's retreat, cooking, providing transportation, advertising the retreat by word of mouth, and by prayer. The next retreat will take place in April 19-21 at the Refuge, near Madoc. Fr. Francis Zambon will be the retreat chaplain for the weekend while Fr. Justin covers his Masses in Deseronto, Marysville & Reid. At our retreats, we welcome women whose pain has been silenced and denied by the world. For more information, to register for the weekend, or to volunteer please email projectrachel@stmarysrefuge. |
